                 Program Intended Learning Outcomes and its link to Competencies


            1. Knowledge and Understanding (K&U)

            MK Key Competency 1:  Identify the basic and clinical sciences and integrating them
            in medical practice.
                      K 1: Describe the normal structure and function of the human body at the whole
            body, organ, cellular, and molecular levels and integrate them to clinical practice.
                      K 2: Discuss the non-biological, cultural influences, psychosocial development
            from birth through old age, normal behavioral and personality traits and integrate them with
            the development and/or continuation of disease.
                      K 3: Identify common and significant clinical problems and diseases with
            explanation of their risk factors, pathophysiology, symptoms, signs, and diagnostic tests
            with a special care to the life-threatening conditions.
                      K 4: Delineate the spectrum of pharmacologic, surgical, psychological treatments
            of common disorders; the biological and sociocultural role of complementary medicine;
            common adverse effects of such treatment; and the efficacy of all interventions.
                      K 5: Clarify the role of nutrition, exercise, lifestyles, and explain them for
            preventive medicine in promoting health and decreasing risk of disease; with recognition of
            the epidemiology of common medical disorders and approaches of disease screening and
            early detection.
            MK Key Competency 2: Delineate investigatory planning and analytic thinking
            approaches.
                      K 6: Identify and utilize the essential knowledge of both lifelong learning
            methodology (Critical thinking, medical informatics, and biostatistics) and evidence-based
            medicine (research, critical appraisal, assimilation) in the patient care.
            MK Key Competency 3: Recognize the supporting sciences and concepts and
            integrate them in medical practice.
                      K 7:  Discuss the different medical profession ethical principles, appropriate and
            inappropriate touching, professional distance & communication styles in different contexts
            particularly with regard to end of life issues, genetics, new molecular technology.
                      K 8:  Explain the concepts and professional approaches to the different safety
            issues; physician safety, patient safety, community safety, life style and career
            management as well as finding the best solution and most relevant recommendations.
                      K 9: List all the organizational steps used by health care systems including
            dealing with diversity, impact of socio-ethno-cultural issues, financing, joint care, transfer
            strategy, consultancy roles and advocacy principles.

            PR Key Competency 4: Deal with others with honesty, integrity, and respect.
                      K 10: Delineate the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touching,
            professional distance and communication styles at different levels. .
            SB Key Competency 3: Coordinate health care and community services with
            diversity of patients.
                      K 11:  Delineate the impact of demographic factors on access-to-care,
            epidemiology of disease, and response to medication or other therapy.
                      K 12: Clarify the influence of religious beliefs and ethno-cultural viewpoints on the
            provision of care and when they may/ must be breached.
