All the educational programs are mandatorily advised by accreditation organizations to define

“milestones” for their competency framework. These milestones define accurately the specific
level to be attained by the student, graduate, intern and postgraduates within each specific

competency or sub-competency. This will specify the depth and breadth of information and skills

needed from each level. This will be very helpful for students, teachers, examiners, audits and
           even for program managers.

It is of paramount importance to emphasize that recent competency based curricula are not aiming
only at the description of the graduate competencies, but also they should define the instructional,

learning and assessment methodologies, that must be tailored to be suitable to competency based

curricula. The LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) requires medical students to be both
taught and assessed using a competency-based model of education, based on the ACGME competencies.

           Program Goals

To develop competent, caring physicians. Our students will acquire a strong foundation in the

basic and clinical sciences, as well as a strong foundation in the professionalism, advocacy, social
and behavioral sciences that are relevant to the well-being of both the physician and the patient.

They will acquire self-directed and lifelong learning skills.

           Program Strategic Objectives

Successful graduates of this program will demonstrate:

               1. Provision of primary and preventive health care, and promote patient safety with the

ability to join the secondary, tertiary and advanced health care teams.
               2. Acquisition of abilities and methods of critical thinking and self-learning with creative

and innovative thinking to find solutions to health problems.
               3. Mastering skill to find and critically appraise publications and application of the

                   best evidence.

               4. Awareness of economic, environmental, psychological, social and ethical contexts in
                   health and disease.

               5. Maintenance of professional standards and commitment to professional partnerships
                   with patients and their relatives.
