P. 7
This interdisciplinary course consists of lectures, laboratories, small group discussions and a
multidisciplinary conference that provide learning experiences on the anatomy, histology,
physiology, pathology , pathophysiology and basic clinical medicine of the gastrointestinal
system, gastrointestinal system abnormalities and appropriate therapy for these conditions.
37. Forensic Medicine
This course will introduce the students to the Forensic terminology with emphasis on the
understanding of the underlying pathology of traumatic and sudden, unexpected deaths
encountered. The course deals with medico-legal investigation of death and injury due to
natural causes, accidents, and violence. It covers analysis/investigation of transportation
injuries, of homicides, suicides due to various causes, and sexual crimes and methods for their
identification.
38. Musculoskeletal-Integument Systems
The course integrate three systems; musculo-skeletal, integument and systems, rheumatic
diseases. The Musculoskeletal System emphasizes the origin and function of skeletal muscle,
cartilage and bone, and includes practical laboratory sessions. Multiple learning modalities
reinforce gross anatomy and microscopic anatomy learning.
39. Endocrine-Reproductive Systems
The course teaches the normal histology, embryology, physiology, pathology, pharmacology
and basic clinical medicine of the endocrine and reproductive systems, integrated with a
consideration of endocrine/reproductive abnormalities and appropriate therapy for these
conditions. The endocrine part will present integrated discussion of normal and abnormal
endocrine function, pathologies and clinical presentations. The reproductive part will introduce
the development, histology, anatomy, physiology and endocrine control of the reproductive
system.
40. Infectious Diseases
In this course, the most significant bacterial, viral, and parasitic infectious diseases are covered,
with emphasis on epidemiology, pathogenic mechanisms of causative agents, immune
responses to infection, typical clinical presentation, prevention and treatment. The infectious
diseases are organized primarily by organ or system in order to present information as it would
be encountered in clinical practice.
41. Primary Health Care
This course is designed to expose the student to another domain of health practice outside the
College and hospitals. It pave the way for more challenging community needs. Knowledge of
the health system is not sufficient unless it is seen on practical grounds. The students will be
allocated to different primary health care centers outside the premises of the college.
Supervision, interaction and evaluation will be combined by College supervisor and
community medicine preceptor. The student will demonstrate all the gained communication,
interpersonal and professional skills. Patient safety and medical epidemiology principles will
be an essential aspect in student evaluation.
