Objective 12: Educate and translate new health care knowledge to junior students, health team
associates, patients and relatives regarding their illness and treatment plans in an effective, concise and
understandable manner.
4. Domain 4 (Area 4) Interpersonal and Communication Skills
Description: Graduates must be able to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that
result in effective information exchange and teaming with patients, their patients families, and
professional associates.
Key Competencies
Competency 1: Create and sustain an effective communication with patients and their relatives.
Objective 1: Conduct an organized medical interview and obtain a pertinent medical history and be
so clever in dealing with all psycho-socio-cultural issues that may help in the medical interview.
Objective 2: Demonstrate the skills of active listening and ability to perform effective patent and
family interviews.
Objective 3: Record all the medical information in a clear, concise, complete and organized manner
using the well-known terminology and codes.
Objective 4: Articulate effective, written reports and summaries for any consultation, supervisory or
referral activities and resolve conflict points in multiple settings when appropriate.
Competency 2: Create effective communication to patients and their relatives.
Objective 5: Summarize and brief the case to the patient and/or relatives using different ways
according to the situations and audience.
Objective 6: Convey clearly information to patients with respect to treatment programs and options,
health maintenance and illness prevention.
Objective 7: Utilize protocols of informed consent and informed refusal with the patients, and/or
guardians to make shared decisions with understanding of the legal and ethical requirements.
Objective 8: Express sensitivity, honesty, and compassion to convey bad news while supporting the
emotional needs of the recipients of the information.

Objective 9: Work effectively with other health care professionals, including those from other
disciplines, as a team member or leader to provide patient-focused care.
Objective 10: Interact with peers, other members of the health care team and the community at
large, using the suitable wording and expressions.

planning and prioritizing, accepting responsibilities and assisting others.
