2. Practical and professional skills
PC Key Competency 1: Conduct medical interview for accurate history taking and
proper clinical examination.
P 1: Take a complete and accurate medical history from their patients and/or their
relatives with ability to identify bio psychosocial and cultural contexts and needs of the
patient.
P 2: Perform an appropriate comprehensive general physical examination.
P 3: Perform an accurate, complete and organ-specific, physical, neurological and
mental status examination in adults, infants and children.
PC Key Competency 4: Develop and carry out effective and safe patient management
plans.
P 4: Develop an appropriate treatment plan for each patient seen besides giving an
outline of the management for patients with serious conditions requiring critical care including
ameliorating the suffering, performing first aid and Basic Life Support when appropriate.
P 5: Provide health care and health maintenance clinical services aimed at
preventing health problems or maintaining health, and keeping patient safety.
P 6: Manage to return patients to primary care providers, or admit it to the health
facility and/or collaborate in continued care as appropriate, when serving as consultant.
PC Key Competency 3: Counsel and educate patients and their families.
P 7: Participate in alleviating patient suffering within ethical and humanitarian codes,
informed consent and patient education.
PC Key Competency 5: Request and / or perform the essential therapeutic procedures.
P 8: Request and/or perform core technical procedures (e.g. phlebotomy,
performance of electrocardiograms, and insertion of intravenous catheters)
P 9: Perform and document appropriate clinical therapeutic procedures and skills
safely and correctly with appropriate supervision taking into account patient comfort,
autonomy, safety, limits of facilities and limits of his own expertise.
IC Key Competency 1: Create and sustain an effective communication with patients
and their relatives.
P 10: Conduct an organized medical interview and obtain a pertinent medical history
and be so clever in dealing with all psycho-socio-cultural issues that may help in the medical
interview.
3. Communication Skills
PC Key Competency 3: Counsel and educate patients and their families.
C 1: Counsel patients and their families to make informed shared decisions about
diagnostic and therapeutic interventions based on patient information, prognosis and
preferences, up-to-date scientific evidence, and clinical judgment.
PL Key Competency 4: Demonstrate skills and abilities as a clinical teacher.
C 2: Educate and translate new health care knowledge to junior students, health
team associates, patients and relatives regarding their illness and treatment plans in an
effective, concise and understandable manner.
