9. Article 9: Attendance
I. Policy
a. The bylaws in its article 6-f, stated that attendance in the medical program require
attendance at daytime hours as well as attendance in the afternoon and at night
shifts. The College will comply with the official announced academic calendar.
All official circumstances that might affect the calendar will also be adapted.
b. Attendance is a key requirement within the College of Medicine and its associated
and affiliated hospitals and clinical settings. The College has a compulsory
attendance policy for all scheduled teaching events. A minimum of 75%
attendance in all teaching, training, lectures, tutorials, and clinical activities is
necessary. Article 6-f of the bylaws stated this clearly.
c. As stated in article 10-j, the student will be notified with the first “alert letter” if
his absence exceeds 15%. Second letter if absence reached 20%. Significant
unexcused absence mean that the student exceeds 25% absence. None of the
students will be able to enter the exam, unless he/she fulfill 75% of the total
attendance in all teaching, training, lectures, tutorials, and clinical activities. The
student academic status in these absence conditions will be Forced Withdrawal.
d. To be late for the lectures and other activities is not a professional behavior, so
you should be on time. It is accepted to be late for 5 minutes only from the start of
lectures, but repetition of the same action, should be considered as unprofessional
behavior. If this was observed by any means of monitoring, A break of
professionalism notice will be given to the student. If this was repeated, the notice
will be added to the student portfolio, hence it will affect his overall evaluation;
within the same course as well as in professionalism.
e. While attendance is mandatory, occasionally a student may be absent due to
unforeseen circumstances, the Curriculum Central Committee will discuss these
student conditions. As per the bylaw article 9-b, any absence must be notified to
the academic advisor.
